Embrace the chaos … it's resource day

Today, we threw our regular schedule out the window. Sound chaotic? It is … a bit. On a day when all classes are doing different things, it can be messy. But, with this newly found freedom, teachers and students at VRG Djursholm took the opportunity to learn, practice, explore, experience and talk to each other. Today, students at our school:
- Met our new Mentor Companies … Economy students in year 2 met with their new mentor companies. By connecting every student with a company, we can expand the assignments beyond the classroom. Students will work with these companies for two years. By getting to know their company, completing assignments about that specific organization and completing an in-depth research project for them in the last year, we can accomplish our goal of ”real and relevant” learning.
- Participated in a study visit to the Swedish Army Museum
- Finished individual oral math exams to show our ability to ”communicate” our learning in mathematics
- Participated in reflection discussions with Swedish teachers – ”one-on-one”
- Prepared group presentations for next week
- Listened to a ”Source Criticism How-To” with our two media specialists – Maria and Anja … this was a great help for our senior project work!
- Participated in the National Spets Conference in Gothenburg
- Listened to George Bachiri, youth information officer from Amnesty International, discuss the role of International Rights from a legal perspective as a way of supporting Humans Rights …
- Participated in student seminars where we could gain important feedback from peers and teachers regarding our Social Science essay
- Wrote an in-class Novel Essay about the classic 19th-century novels they read in English …
- Caught up on reading for University studies (Spets)
In addition to these specific activities, students were able to meet one-on-one with teachers, work together in groups, study for upcoming tests, prepare soon-to-be-handed in assignments, rest, workout and more.
As we enter the end of the first quarter of learning, students and teachers are very busy. We respect the workload. We understand that to do your best – you must plan your time well, prepare thoroughly, try, get half-way, get feedback and try again and again and again. It is a process that can look very different from student to student even if they are all working on the same task. – Learning is a process, a messy process.
Therefore, we accept the messiness and embrace the chaos!
